The papers have been signed! Today went MUCH smoother then I imagined, but it has been an incredibly long day. Papers were signed at noon, and we were out of the attorney’s office by 12:30. We proceeded right to the house (with cars we packed last night! yeah efficiency!) and got to work cleaning…. for 9 hours.
Immediately upon getting to the house we changed the locks. They DID end up leaving the television in the basement behind and we also won’t be there again until Sunday night so we didn’t want to risk anyone being able to get in and creep around. Changing the locks was a bit of a hassle, but we (and by we, I mean my brother) were able to do it ourselves without a locksmith. New knobs and dead bolts for the 3 doors ran about $70- well worth not having to worry about it.
The house was an absolute filth fest. I took charge of the side room and kitchen, cleaning windows and cabinets and the fridge (which was full of several congealed and unidentified substances). Matt washed just about every floor and cleaned the downstairs bathroom, in addition to several other things. My brother and sister-in-law showed up and were immensely helpful in cleaning the living room and bathroom- we really couldn’t have done it without them. All in all the house is already looking worlds different, so I’m excited to get in and settled and get it painted.
We were a little loopy by the end of it all and started peeling away at the wallpaper, which was actually kind of therapeutic after such a long day. We were only getting the paper layer off, not the adhesive, but it definitely is just one layer. My goal for the week is to get all the wallpaper down… we’ll see how that goes. I’m going to buy some DIF this week and hope for the best. It was a long and taxing day, but we are homeowners! Yeah! Now let the real work begin…
