Yesterday we were lucky enough to have 3 friends over to help us (just about) finish painting the first floor of our home. As of right now the sunroom is a lovely sage green, the living room is grey and yellow, and the kitchen is yellow. The kitchen still needs a second coat of paint but I think it’s going to end up being my favorite room- it’s sunny and bright and happy and I love it. The living room built in bookcase still needs a second coat of paint, and I haven’t decided yet if I like the yellow accent wall. In theory, the wall was meant to bring the two rooms together since they’re connected and they face each other. In reality, I sort of feel like it breaks the room apart and I could make the connection when art and accents. I’ll need some more opinions on this before I decide what to do. What do you think?
It’s hard to capture what I mean in the pictures, but you can see that we left the entry way the white truffle that I hated for the whole living room and the other walls were painted as initially planned. I like having the entryway a different, lighter color so at least that whole 6 hours wasn’t completely for nothing. What do you think of the accent wall?
Overall, I’m extremely glad we got as much done as we did. We couldn’t have done it without all the help that we had. Since we’re basically pros now (ha!), here’s some tips:
- Put aluminum foil in your painting tray for easy clean up
- Use a foam brush to paint up near the ceiling, which is awfully tricky by the way
- Save your cream cheese and butter containers to use as portable little paint holders so when you’re doing the trim you don’t have to keep going back and forth to the tray
- We used Behr Premium Plus paint and so far so good. I have no idea how it compares to other brands, but it’s what dad said to use so we’re using it!
