Hello! I’m posting on a bonus day this week (I normally post Monday/Wednesday/Friday) because I have been nominated for the Liebster Award by my blog-friend Asia over at Cape Cod Dreams! Thanks Asia!!
Along with the award comes some questions, so if you’re interested in learning a little more about me just read on:
1. Where do you get your inspiration?
When I first started blogging and decorating I was very hugely inspired by Young House Love, but once I sort of evolved and developed my style and preferences I started getting inspiration from some blog friends (turned actual best friends)- Emma, Kenz, and Tracie. Emma is a lover of colors, which for some reason horrify me, so I need her to make me put down the white spray paint. Kenz is fearless and daring with power tools, which helps to make me feel like I can be too. And Tracie has a classic, timeless taste in furniture and decorating that reminds me everything does not need to be redone. I’m not a huge magazine reader and lately I’m exhausted by Pinterest, so drawing from real life, relatable creative people has become really important to me.
2. What is your favorite color? Do you have one? Why?
Shockingly enough, my favorite color is orange (which is why my guest room is a screaming orange). It’s so happy and cheerful and fun, I love it. But the reality of things, if you look at what I wear and how I decorate, is that I surround myself in nice, mellow, humble gray.
3. If you could visit any place in the world, where would it be?
Honest to goodness I would sell my soul for a trip to LegoLand & the San Diego Zoo, in California. For some silly reason that’s not at the top of Matt’s list… so instead we’re currently planning a two week trip to Australia. I guess that’ll have to do.
4. What is the best book you last read?
I’m going to be honest and straight up tell you I barely read books. Like ever. I work far too many jobs and I love watching movies and crummy television shows. But I guess my most recent favorites have been In the Woods and The Likeness, both by Tana French.
5. What are your best tips for other bloggers?
This is going to sound so cliche, but just write for yourself. Write because you want to write. The moment you start putting pressure on yourself, or stressing over stats, it starts to wear on you. All the pressure is imaginary. That being said, I check my freaking stats like 90 times a day. Do as I say, not as I do.
Another good tip is to comment on other blogs! Comment, comment, comment. Make blog friends, because more often then not they relate to you a lot more then real life friends. I love my real life friends to death, but if I’m hankering to spray paint a side table metallic silver chances are they are not the people who will care to hear about it.
And one last tip- take good pictures! Sometimes I take good pictures, sometimes I take terrible pictures. But I try real had and I always always always edit in PicMonkey.com . I am constantly reminding myself to take a “pinnable” picture for each post.
So there you go, a little bit about little ol’ me. And since Emma recently got a Liebster Award for her blog Broke Ass Home, I will have to pass it on to Kenz (@Interiors by Kenz) and Tracie (@Middle Class Modern).
