Batman Bachlorette

24 days from today I am getting hitched- 24 days! Man, that’s getting close.

Last Friday my friends threw me the most perfect, personalized,聽and DIY’d聽bachlorette party. It was amazing and they are lovely. I am not the kind of girl that wants to go out and party in a tiara and sash, and seriously, I do not want to drink from a penis shaped straw. Not. My. Style.

You know what is my style? Superheros.

Ignore those gallon booze buckets. That is of no concern.

My friends, from right to left: Wolverine, Captain America, The Flash, Thor, Ironman, and Wonder Woman. Then me- Batman! Woo hoo! (Yes, I know we mixed DC and Marvel- get over it). They did just enough that we all looked amazing and clearly our characters, but were still comfortable and walking around Boston feeling only a fun level of ridiculous. OH, and it was all a surprise to me. I was just told to make sure I wore a black shirt.

Man! They made so much stuff! Just on me I had leather arm bracers and a mask (handmade by my friends’ husband! no joke!), a bat symbol made of felt and velcro for my shirt, about 9 million comic word rings, and a glittery black cape.聽The yellow, plastic earrings are all mine. And were a coincidence.聽

In addition to making everyone capes, my maid of honor (Thor) also made goodie bags for everyone that included batman pins, glow sticks, batman bracelets, batman pencils, and nips ;). Ironman and The Flash made felt masks for us all (and then, apparently, Ironman had an identity crisis and turned into The Hulk).

The comic rings, made by Captain America, were a huge hit. We took as many as we could fit in our purses to the bar with us and were shoving them in each others faces all night. She printed the words out and then glue them to cardboard, then attached a circular cardboard ring to the back with hot glue.

The聽Mardi聽Gras beads were a bonus, one of the bar patrons thought we were awesome and handed them over.

I’m sure I’m missing something, like Wonder Woman’s glittery headband and wrist cuffs and laso of truth– there was just so much! Wolverine had freaking gloves on, and she was聽dedicated聽to wearing them. It was very exciting and I am so appreciative. Thanks guys!

Also, dear friends, if you would like any of these pictures to not be on the internet just let me know. 馃檪 I’m following my student’s advice- do it without asking and apologize later if you have to. haha

Guess the review…

Have you ever played those hidden object games, where you have to look through the picture to see what doesn’t fit or what stands out? We’re going to do a weird little bloggy version of that right now.

I’ve got a product to review. Take a look at this picture and guess what it is.

why yes, that IS me dressed as Batman for my bachlorette party

Did you take a guess?

Unless you were actually out with me this past Friday night I’m going to go ahead and assume you did not guess the product correctly.

Right?! It’s kind of hard to focus on false eyelashes when you’re so busy thinking “how does someone that good looking and totally serious become a superhero.” I understand.

I was sent 2 boxes of Kiss lashes as part of the “I Do Vox Box” I received from Influenster,- one super thick (what’s pictured above) and one not so intense. I have never worn eyelashes in my life so I thought I’d give you all a quick little write up on the experience.

eyelashes

First of all, they were shockingly easy to put on. The little plastic applicator thing was a lifesaver. The left one I got on right with my first try, the right one took two or three to line up right (maybe because I’m a lefty)? But it wasn’t nearly as scary as I thought.

Before I even attempted to put them on, I watched several YouTube videos on the process (just google the product name and “how to”). The lashes come with glue and you dab glue along the top, then let it air dry fo about 30 seconds so it’s tacky, then use the applicator to stick it first to the center of your lash line and then work your way out to the corners. Finally, I used the applicator to press my own lashes into the false ones so they blended a bit more seamlessly.

I was too busy to take real pictures of how they looked. Sorry :)

I was too busy having an awesome time to take real pictures of how they looked. Sorry 馃檪

When I first put the lashes on I felt a bit like a cartoon character, they looked excessive. Once I got used to them though they didn’t seem to stick out too bad, and they did not bump up against my glasses like I thought they would. I also do not line the top of my eyelids, so it was important that they fit on sans-caterpillar looking (and they did).

The downsides: I could literally feel them stuck onto my eyes, and that sensation never went away. I wore them all night, but on the train home I could not take it anymore and peeled them off. They looked good, and I tolerated them for about 8 hours, but that was quite enough. Also, the box says they’re reusable, and I’m sure they are, but that just felt like pink eye waiting to happen so I think one use is good enough for me.

Overall, they’re not even close to something I would wear everyday but it was fun for a night where we were all out being silly anyway.

Also, in case you’re wondering what the heck is up with the costume, my friends threw me a superhero themed bachlorette party. 馃檪 Come back tomorrow to see more of it!

GIVEAWAY: flat screen tv wall mount!

*This giveaway is now closed*

Today’s post is a pretty amazing one, if I do say so myself. I’ve been posting a lot about our movie room lately (here, here, and here), so when Sanus reached out to me about their flat screen tv wall mounts (and giving one to one of you!!) I was super excited and jumped all over it. Not just because attaching your tv to the wall looks super cool, but also because there’s all sorts of safety reasons to do so.

I got 99 problems and Pinterest is one

I’ve got a bad blogger confession to make: I have gotten completely overwhelmed with Pinterest in the past few months, to the point where I barely use it anymore. And it’s a darn shame.

But I think I’ve figured out my problem(s):

  • I am following WAY too many boards.
  • I’m on far too many group boards.
  • Far too many people I follow all pin the same things that show up all over my damn homepage when I log in.

So, my friends, I encourage you to join me in clean out yo’ Pinterest closet.

PicMonkey Collage

Unfollow people.

Unfollow boards.

Make your remaining boards purposeful.

Scale back a bit.

I do not need to have 15 pins about how to stencil a wall, I know how to stencil a wall. I am sick of giveaways that require me to follow 97 people’s pinterest page just to enter, ain’t nobody got time for that.

Are you feeling overwhelmed by Pinterest? Are you still in love with it? What do you do to keep it all under control?! Let’s vent today, friends.

Something Blue Vox Box: Urgent Rx Fast Powders

The last time Influenster sent me a box of products to review I did it all in one take, but this time around I’m going to spread it out a bit. I got the “Something Blue” vox box in the mail, perfectly timed with my wedding only a month away, so some of these products I can use now and some I’ll save for the wedding.

so many goodies!!

so many goodies!!

Yesterday I started in a brand new position where I work- woo hoo!- but I woke up feeling a bit nervous. And I had a bit of a stress headache, so I dived into the box and got the Urgent Rx fast powders.

Instead of a pill, it’s just a packet of powder. So I opened the packet and poured all the powder onto my tongue… holy crap you guys it was a lot more powder then I expected. And it was supposed to have a lime taste, but um, I thought it tasted kind of awful. HOWEVER, within 10 minutes my headache was gone completely and never came back. So as far as easy to use, easy to transport, and fast acting- it totally holds up.

I also read all the fine print so you guys don’t have to- point of note: it contains a solid amount of caffeine. So either don’t have your usual cup in the morning, or just have half of it. This will give you the jolt you need!

How to hide your pesky wires!

On Monday I showed you some in progress photos of our movie room, and then on Wednesday Matt popped in to talk to you about our 7 speaker surround sound system and DIY subwoofer isolation pad.

That’s right, SEVEN speakers…. and you thought hiding the cord of a lamp was hard!

Psst: IT'S ALL THE WIRES! :)

Psst: IT’S ALL THE WIRES! 馃檪

In the front of the room we’ve got two tall speakers flanking the tv and one subwoofer right next to it, and those wires are easily scooted under our baseboard and behind our tv stand. However, hiding the wires from our two back speakers and our two sound speakers was a bit trickier. And trickier still…we couldn’t hide them in the walls because the insulation was installed backwards and there wasn’t enough space.

The solution… these awesome, adhesive, paintable wire covers. (And no, I’m not being compensated to tell you that, we just seriously love these things).

IMG_2577

Is it completely invisible? Of course not. But it really does a solid job at blending, and anything is better then trailing 聽wires from the very back of a room to the very front of it.

The packs also come with corner elbows and T-shaped fittings so you can get around tricky areas, like giant beams that span the length of your ceiling:

IMG_2579

Overall, I absolutely think these are a lifesaver. It’s Matt’s room and it looks just how he wants it to… but let’s face it- left to his own devices they’re probably wouldn’t be a gallery wall of framed posters, concealed wires, and a plush 聽comfy rug.

You can definitely use these to hide lamp cords, tv wires (especially if you have a mounted tv!), speaker wires, etc.

So tell me, what are your wire hiding secrets?
