Influenster Nation

Oh hi all! While you’re cooking up a storm and mapping out your Black Friday plans, I thought I’d  throw up a quick post about Influenster for you to mull over as well. I’ve got several invites if you want one. 🙂

Influenster was one of the first sites I signed up for when I decided to start blogging. Basically, it’s a website where you can not only write reviews for products you use- but also potentially receive some products in the mail to test out and try. You don’t have to be a blogger, just someone who’s active on social media

oh yeah... and there's an app for that.

oh yeah… and there’s an app for that.

This has not just been blog fodder to me. A lot of the stuff I’ve received I’ve then turned around and purchased on my own:

Colgate Optic White toothpaste ( totally works and is literally in my bathroom right now! original post here)

Dickinson Witch Hazel toner and make up removing pads (these have become a staple in my house, I even mentioned them in my last health round up. I also mentioned them in a post May of last year. and the original post is  here)

Victoria Secret sports bra and knockout crop pants (I use these pretty much every day, unless they’re in the wash. original post here)

Urgent Rx powders (this stuff takes care of headaches like whoa! original post here)

KISS fake eyelashes (awesome at my bachlorette! original post here)

Let me know if  you want an invite! Just comment below (and make sure to include your email address).

Guess the review…

Have you ever played those hidden object games, where you have to look through the picture to see what doesn’t fit or what stands out? We’re going to do a weird little bloggy version of that right now.

I’ve got a product to review. Take a look at this picture and guess what it is.

why yes, that IS me dressed as Batman for my bachlorette party

Did you take a guess?

….well did you?

Unless you were actually out with me this past Friday night I’m going to go ahead and assume you did not guess the product correctly.

….one more line of text so you have to scroll to find out

….and scroll another second

….and just go ahead and scroll one more second too while you’re at it

Right?! It’s kind of hard to focus on false eyelashes when you’re so busy thinking “how does someone that good looking and totally serious become a superhero.” I understand.

I was sent 2 boxes of Kiss lashes as part of the “I Do Vox Box” I received from Influenster,- one super thick (what’s pictured above) and one not so intense. I have never worn eyelashes in my life so I thought I’d give you all a quick little write up on the experience.

First of all, they were shockingly easy to put on. The little plastic applicator thing was a lifesaver. The left one I got on right with my first try, the right one took two or three to line up right (maybe because I’m a lefty)? But it wasn’t nearly as scary as I thought.

Before I even attempted to put them on, I watched several YouTube videos on the process (just google the product name and “how to”). The lashes come with glue and you dab glue along the top, then let it air dry fo about 30 seconds so it’s tacky, then use the applicator to stick it first to the center of your lash line and then work your way out to the corners. Finally, I used the applicator to press my own lashes into the false ones so they blended a bit more seamlessly.

I was too busy to take real pictures of how they looked. Sorry :)

I was too busy having an awesome time to take real pictures of how they looked. Sorry 🙂

When I first put the lashes on I felt a bit like a cartoon character, they looked excessive. Once I got used to them though they didn’t seem to stick out too bad, and they did not bump up against my glasses like I thought they would. I also do not line the top of my eyelids, so it was important that they fit on sans-caterpillar looking (and they did).

The downsides: I could literally feel them stuck onto my eyes, and that sensation never went away. I wore them all night, but on the train home I could not take it anymore and peeled them off. They looked good, and I tolerated them for about 8 hours, but that was quite enough. Also, the box says they’re reusable, and I’m sure they are, but that just felt like pink eye waiting to happen so I think one use is good enough for me.

Overall, they’re not even close to something I would wear everyday but it was fun for a night where we were all out being silly anyway.

Also, in case you’re wondering what the heck is up with the costume, my friends threw me a superhero themed bachlorette party. 🙂 Come back tomorrow to see more of it!

Something Blue Vox Box: Urgent Rx Fast Powders

The last time Influenster sent me a box of products to review I did it all in one take, but this time around I’m going to spread it out a bit. I got the “Something Blue” vox box in the mail, perfectly timed with my wedding only a month away, so some of these products I can use now and some I’ll save for the wedding.

so many goodies!!

so many goodies!!

Yesterday I started in a brand new position where I work- woo hoo!- but I woke up feeling a bit nervous. And I had a bit of a stress headache, so I dived into the box and got the Urgent Rx fast powders.

Instead of a pill, it’s just a packet of powder. So I opened the packet and poured all the powder onto my tongue… holy crap you guys it was a lot more powder then I expected. And it was supposed to have a lime taste, but um, I thought it tasted kind of awful. HOWEVER, within 10 minutes my headache was gone completely and never came back. So as far as easy to use, easy to transport, and fast acting- it totally holds up.

I also read all the fine print so you guys don’t have to- point of note: it contains a solid amount of caffeine. So either don’t have your usual cup in the morning, or just have half of it. This will give you the jolt you need!

Influenster Vox Box Review!

If you follow me on Twitter or Instagram you may have noticed I’ve been a little excited about my Vox Box and the products in it, so I thought I’d take a post to tell you what the heck a Vox Box is and why I’m so obsessed with it.

I am a member of Influenster.com (if you’d like an invite let me know). As part of that they sent me a box of products to test out and review- hooray! The theme of the box I got is “sugar ‘n spice.”

holy crap, this box was filled with goodies.

holy crap, this box was filled with goodies.

1. belVita Breakfast Biscuits: I ate these immediately, which is why I have no close up picture of them. But really, if you give me free food chances are it’ll be gone in under 5 minutes. They were really good, tasted similar to a graham cracker, and for being smallish were filling with my eggs and tea.

2. Nectresse: This is a sweetener with 0 calories that is all natural. It came with a little booklet to tell you what measurements to use when substituting it for sugar, which was really helpful. I cut up a bunch of strawberries, added a packet, and chowed down. It tasted exactly like sugar, so if you’re trying to be more healthy and organic conscious it’s definitely a good way to to.

3. Vaseline Spray & Go Moisturizer: This guy deserves an solo photo op.

UntitledI freaking love this stuff. I’ve gotten into the routine of taking a shower, spraying this on, then blow drying my hair & by the time my hair is dry this has been totally absorbed. It promises not to be oily or greasy and it really isn’t, it ends up feeling a little bit like you just put baby powder on.

It sprays on continuously, you don’t have to pump it, so you can just cover yourself head to toe then quickly rub it in and then you’re done. I have super super painful dry sky so normally I go more for a thick lotion then something this lightweight, but it did the trick and I was really impressed.

I definitely recommend this product, especially where summer is coming up because I think it’d be really good after a day at the beach.

Have I sold you on this yet? I hope so. Because they’re not even making me say amazing things about it. I just feel that deserves to have amazing things said.

4. Colgate Optic White Regimen: There were 3 Colgate products in the box that if used together claimed to whiten your teeth within 5 days.

I’ve used the mouthwash and toothpaste everyday since I got them and Matt’s been using the toothbrush (I have an electric one my dentist said I have to use). As for the mouthwash I think Matt said it best when he said “it feels like you’re gargling with electricity.” It is intense, it took me a few days to be able to gargle for the full minute. But after brushing and gargling it literally feels like you just left the dentist, it’s that thorough. And Matt says he loves the toothbrush too, that it has all sorts of textures and it’s really lightweight. I do believe our smiles are a bit brighter as well.

5. Dickinson’s Original Witch Hazel Oil Controlling Towelettes: This was my most favorite product in the whole box. If I was to actually go out and buy one thing from the entire box, it would be these. I love them. I want to rub my face with these towels all day everyday and sing a song about them on a mountain top.

I work a regular day job and then I alternate between two night jobs, so in between job #1 and job #2 I’ve been wiping my face down with these and it feels ah-may-zing. Normally I’d be annoyed with something like this because it does wipe off some makeup, but holy god the tingly  happiness that happens on your skin is so worth it. A box of 20 of these is only $6, so they’re pretty cheap for all the magnificent magic that they do.

So there you have it, my first product review post. Sorry it was so wordy, I had lots of things to say and was so excited to be a part of this. 🙂
